모든 스포츠는 규칙을 정해놓고 하는 게임입니다.
특별히 애써 만든것 같지 않은 달리기, 멀리뛰기 등도 어느정도의 거리를 뛸지 어떤 선을 기준으로 기록을 측정할지 등 일정한 규칙을 만들어서 기록을 측정하기로 약속한 것이죠.
골프 또한 단순한 규칙과 아주 복잡한 규칙으로 이루어진 게임입니다.
쉬운 규칙이라도 용어는 숙지하고 있어야 뜻이 서로 통하겠죠?
골프라는 게임을 100% 즐기기 위해 골프용어 중 스코어에 관련된 용어를 알아봅시다.
(골프라는 스포츠를 전혀 모르는 사람에게 설명한다고 가정하겠습니다.)
골프게임에서 스코어 세는 법
골프 스코어를 간단히 정의하자면 티박스에서 티샷으로 출발한 공이 홀컵에 들어갈때까지 골프클럽으로 공을 타격한 횟수라고 할수 있습니다.
물론 각종 규칙에 의해 페널티를 받아 벌타를 적용하면 스코어는 실제 타격한 횟수보다 늘어나겠죠?
기준타수 – 홀마다 허용된 타수
골프코스에는 홀마다 기준타수가 정해져 있습니다.
- Par 3 홀 : 티샷을 포함하여 3번 만에 홀컵에 공을 넣으면 기준타수대로 플레이해서 ‘Par’를 기록하게 됩니다.
- Par 4 홀 : 티샷을 포함하여 4번 만에 홀컵에 공을 넣으면 기준타수대로 플레이해서 ‘Par’를 기록하게 됩니다.
- Par 5 홀 : 티샷을 포함하여 5번 만에 홀컵에 공을 넣으면 기준타수대로 플레이해서 ‘Par’를 기록하게 됩니다.
이 기준타수를 정확히 지켜서 플레이 한 경우 Par 라고 합니다.
한 라운드는 보통 18홀
그리고 이 홀들을 9개씩 묶어 한개의 코스를 이루고, 다시 전/후반 9홀 코스 두개를 묶어 한 라운드 18홀 코스로 골프 게임을 진행하게 됩니다.
18홀 코스는 파3/4/5를 섞어 보통 72타로 기준타수를 구성하는 골프장이 대부분입니다.
하지만 골프 코스마다 1타 정도 적거나 많을수도 있고, 골프장 설계에 따라 그 이상 차이도 날 수 있습니다.
기준타수만큼, 중간은 했다.
‘파(Par)’는 평상시 액면가를 뜻하는 주식용어 ‘파 피겨(Par Figure)’에서 왔다고 합니다.
1870년대 이전에는 기준타수를 개념이 없었고, 골프대회 ‘디 오픈(The Open)’을 취재하는 한 기자가 이 대회에서 우승하려면 몇타를 쳐야하는지 궁금해 했고, 당시 대회는 18홀이 아닌 12홀로 경기가 진행됐는데 선수들이 49타 정도면 우승을 차지할 것이라고 전망했습니다.
이후 대회에서 ‘탐 모리스’ 선수가 3라운드 36홀 경기에서 149타로 우승을 차지하자 해당 기자는 기준타수(Par) 147타(49타 X 3라운드)보다 2 오버 파를 기록했다고 표현했습니다.
이것이 파를 사용하게 된 최초의 기록으로 남아있습니다.
중간은 했다고 표현했지만 골프코스 기준타수 설계대로 플레이 했음을 의미하는 파는 중간의 의미는 아닌것 같습니다.
(특히 저와 같은 아마추어들에게는요..^^)
기준타수보다 마이너스, 아주 잘했다.
버디(Birdie)
‘버디’라는 표현은 새라는 표현인 ‘버드(bird)’에서 온 것으로 “샷이 새처럼 날았다(That was a bird of shot)”고 표현한 데에서 시작됐다고 합니다.
당시 미국에서는 ‘버드(Bird)’라는 단어가 유행했던 시절로 요즘으로 따지면 ‘쿨(cool)’ 또는 원더풀(wonderful)쯤으로 해석되며, ‘멋지다, 괜찮다, 잘했다’의 의미로 버드라는 말을 썼다고 합니다.
‘버디(Birdie)’는 ‘샷 오브 버드’를 줄인 말입니다.
그때부터 버디는 기준 타수보다 1타 더 잘 친 기록을 표현하는 단어로 굳혀졌습니다.
이글(Eagle)
이글(Eagle)은 기준 타수보다 2타 적게 홀아웃한 것입니다. 통상 파 5홀에서 3번째 샷으로 홀에 넣거나 파 4홀에서 2번째 샷으로 공을 홀에 넣는 경우 입니다.
알바트로스(Albatross), 콘도르(Condor), 오스트리치(Ostrich)
알바트로스(Albatross) : -3
콘도르(Condor) : -4
오스트리치(Ostrich) : -5
마이너스로 갈수록 점점 큰새 이름이 붙는다고 합니다.
하지만 알바트로스를 기록하려면 파4 홀인원 또는 파5 세컨샷에서 홀인해야하는데 죽을때까지 볼일이 있으려나 싶구요.
콘도르, 오스트리치는 이름도 생소할 정도입니다.ㅎㅎ
기준타수보다 플러스, 아쉬운 결과.
기준타수보다 많이 친 경우는 보기(Bogey)에서 갯수만 늘어납니다.
보기(Bogey) – 1타를 더 친 경우
더블보기(Double Bogey) – 2타를 더 친 경우
트리플보기(Triple bogey) – 3타를 더 친 경우
쿼트러플보기(Quadruple bogey) – 4타를 더 친 경우
퀸튜플보기(Quintuple bogey) – 5타를 더 친 경우
섹튜플보기(Sextuple bogey) – 5타를 더 친 경우
셉튜플보기(Septuple bogey) – 6타를 더 친 경우
이븐/언더/오버 파
코스 기준타수대로 플레이 하는 것이 파라고 설명드렸죠?
이 파를 기준으로 기준타수보다 잘 플레이 했는지 아쉽게 플레이 했는지 일컫는 용어도 있습니다.
다만 이것은 한 홀의 스코어를 두고 사용하기 보다는 전체 코스에 대한 플레이가 끝났거나 현재까지의 누적 스코어를 표현할때 자주 사용합니다.
이븐 파(Even par)
Par는 다른용어로 ‘이븐’또는 ‘이븐 파’라고 표현하기도 합니다.
언더 파(Under par)
기준타수보다 적은 마이너스 점수를 기록하고 있음을 의미합니다.
주로 프로경기에서나 언더파 스코어를 자주 볼수 있습니다.
가끔 아마추어가 언더파를 기록하는 실력자가 있는데, 저는 아직 동반자중에 언더파를 기록하는 경우는 보지 못했습니다.
오버 파(Over Par)
반대로 오버파는 기준타수보다 많은 타수를 기록하고 있음을 의미합니다.
골프는 어렵기 때문에 참 매력있는 것 같습니다.
스코어 세는 것부터 쉽지 않지만, 스스로 세는 것이 원칙인 만큼 상황과 타협하지 않는 것부터 진짜 골프가 시작되는 것이 아닌가 라는 생각이 듭니다.

After I initially left a comment I seem to have clicked on the

now whenever a comment is added I recieve 4 emails with the exact same
comment. There has to be an easy method you can remove me from that
